Corneal Nerve Function in OSD - From Underactive to Overactive (COPE Accredited: 94661-TD - 1 Hour) Corneal neuronal disease in the clinical practice is more common than we might think. Many patients with refractory keratopathy unresponsive to lubrication and anti-inflammatory therapy may actually have early-stage Neurotrophic Keratopathy (NK). Corneal neuropathy resulting in hyperalgesia may also often be overlooked in cases where the ocular surface looks relatively healthy upon gross examination, yet the patient is very symptomatic. Identification and management of corneal neuropathy will be comprehensively presented and discussed with real-world case examples.
Parasympathetic Nervous System and Dry Eye Disease: Current Applications (COPE Accredited: 93851-NO - 1 Hour) The parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) is intimately tied to the development and treatment of Dry Eye Disease (DED). Current treatment modalities and literature on the subject are somewhat limited, yet clinical practitioners incorporate the PNS into patient treatment plans everyday. This course will highlight the nervous system pathway as it relates to DED and present past and current literature that helps us elucidate the relationship between the two. Identification and management will be discussed with real world clinical applications of how to enhance the PNS in DED therapies.
